We can burn brighter than the sun.
Fun. - We Are Young
You can't go wrong with a voice like that. Amazing.
Tuesday, August 30, 2011
Nothing's perfect, but it's worth it after fighting through my tears.
Beyonce - Love on Top
Congrats to Beyonce and Jay Z! Such an amazing performer, she never fails to impress and leave her mark. The great thing about Beyonce is that she always, and I mean, ALWAYS, delivers a master class performance. And everyone haves a great time regardless of how good or bad the song is. Loved her in the VMAs. Kudos.

Best music video ever. Take that, Gaga.

I’m gonna set your soul alight.
Morning Parade - Under The Stars
Indie electro. Smooth.
Our love was in the hall, all packed in boxes.
Sleeperstar - I Was Wrong
Official video, finally. Loved this song ever since I heard it on Vampire Diaries. They seem to have a repertoire of great songs in the soundtrack. Hurray for me.
Tuesday, May 17, 2011
Like the shotgun needs an outcome.
Lykke Li - Get Some
Two words: Drunk Katherine.
Just kidding.
So. Good.
Monday, May 9, 2011
I'll grant you one wish that won't come true.
Acceptance - This Conversation is Over
Feeling angsty and punkish. Thus the reason for today's song choice. There's a simlish version btw!
Wednesday, May 4, 2011
Everything is just fine.
Gold Motel - Perfect In My Mind
All I can say is. She sounds really pretty.
Wednesday, April 27, 2011
I can't begin to recognize the blackness in your eyes.
Neon Trees - Calling My Name
Love love them.Tyler sings like he doesn't give a sh*t. Awesome. Plus, female drummer. Props. This was like one of their earlier singles, not on their album 'Habits' though. Pity. Thank god for Youtube.
Sunday, April 24, 2011
We could make a mess like no one knows.
The Ready Set - Young Forever
I love this. Not something you would expect me to like, but hey I'm really, really versatile. Plus, the lyric video is so cutesy! Bright colours and 3D wave projection thingies.
Saturday, April 23, 2011
It's not just a feeling like some kind of call to the wild.
Trent Dabbs - Here We Go
Just a quick update but I have to share this song here. Love it, been on repeat for a while now.
Thursday, April 21, 2011
The time don’t show when the sun gets carried
Young the Giant - Strings
I love how everyone's so laid back. Jamming in the middle of some swamp looking (?) place. Absolutely love how organic they sound, you can actually hear every single instrument. Gosh. The melodies and harmonizations are incredible. These guys are definitely one of the best indie acts I've heard so far.
Wednesday, April 20, 2011
Feed me the words to explain this urge.
The Honorary Title - Points Underneath
OMG Jarrod Gorbel, I feel you.
All your hopes and fears. Gosh. This is amazing.
This song definitely goes into the soundtrack of my life.
What started as a crush became an obsession
It was the classic path
You've taken the weekend home, you're believing
That things are somehow getting done
But you're wrong, your wrong
your wrong oh no
Now don't ever leave me alone, not this evening
I am cold and shivering without you near
I have begged and I have borrowed
From my friends, who once admired
Now they all have lost respect for me
[chorus]
Feed me the words to explain this urge
With pressure and squeeze, from points underneath
The streams in your skin are ready
cause I can, and I will, just as long as you instill
This fear in my heart
I just hope that you aren't alone
I just hope that you aren't alone
"Did I do something wrong?" her eyes start to question
Yes, you did something wrong.
You just failed to mention
[chorus]
Hopefully you will see that the plans and the dreams
That we shared under this haze
They all wilt away
Hopefully you will see that the plans and the dreams
That we shared under this haze
You were wrong.
I just hope that you aren't alone
Sunday, April 17, 2011
There's gold ahead, there's golden dreams.
The Rocket Summer - Hills and Valleys
I always have a thing for artists who sing with a cutesy voice. And this guy's got it down pat. Love it. Song gives you this adrenaline rush, makes you wanna go out and run like the wind. Seriously.
Thursday, April 14, 2011
So I don't wanna dance alone.
This Century - Sound of Fire
New favourite song. Ha. The melody's simply too catchy. Love the bridge, escpecially. But the acoustic version's without that part. Check out the lyric video or the official music video below for the actual recording of the song.
Wednesday, April 13, 2011
My friends we've seen it all, when it made no sense at all.
Snow Patrol - Give Me Strength
Great song. Gives me goosebumps. Perfect, perfect.
Tuesday, April 12, 2011
I'm headed for the final precipice.
Switchfoot - Yet
And since when are they coming to Singapore? That's awesome. 2011 is a year of many, many good gigs.
Monday, April 11, 2011
We lived an adventure; Love in the Summer
Empire of The Sun - We Are The People
Awesome song that came on Sky.fm's IndieRadio just a couple of secs ago. Oh man, you can't imagine the countless number of great songs I discovered listening to that station. Indie heaven.
And now they're playing Jarrod Gorbel! This really is love.
Friday, April 8, 2011
Oh, I wish I had a suntan
Girls - Lust for Life
Gosh how I love finding random bands on Youtube like Girls here. Don't be fooled by the name, aha, there are in fact no girls in the band. They sound very hipster/vintage/boho-ish, kinda like The Drums? Perfect for a lazy Sunday morning.
Thursday, April 7, 2011
And the ever-turnin', spinnin' wheel Of people, places, lies
The Airborne Toxic Event - Numb
I've mentioned ATE before. And they've recently released another video! Love it. Both the video and the song. The black and white cut out effects really add a touch of glam there. Reminds me of those iPod ads. You know, the ones with the colourful backgrounds and black coloured silhouettes? Now, for the song, nothing spectacular but it's still better than 'put your hands up.. put your hands up..'
Sunday, April 3, 2011
Cause in the daylight anywhere feels like home
Matt and Kim - Daylight
This song can brighten any day up instantly. From the opening piano jingle to that awesome drum beat in the background, everything screams 'happy'.
(:
Thursday, March 31, 2011
You better run, better run
Foster The People - Pumped Up Kicks
Song to chill to. Check out the lyrics though. Pretty interesting once you get it.
Friday, March 25, 2011
Love it when you let go.
Bumpy Ride - Acoustic Version (just Irwin)
Gosh I love this song! It's been on repeat since I first heard it! Amazing acoustic version by the lead singer above, seriously just listen!
Thursday, March 24, 2011
Promises, swear them to the sky.
The Naked and Famous - Young Blood
I get this euphoric feeling everytime I listen to this.
Yee-ah, yeeah yeeah yeeah.
You'll love it when you let go.
The Hoosiers - Bumpy Ride
I heard this on the radio and googled 'Baby we can work it out'. Wrong move, heh. I only got searches related to Paul McCartney's song which had a similar name.
The Hoosiers won the X-Factor last year.
JUST KIDDING.
Good music, plus a wicked sense of humor to boot. Awesome.
End of story.
Tuesday, March 22, 2011
Don't check me out.
The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart - "Young Adult Friction"
Music for your mid-week hurrah. Sweet band name, by the way.
Monday, March 21, 2011
Control yourself; Take only what you need from it.
Weezer - Kids/Poker Face
Rivers can just about sing anything, as proven above. His vocals are perfect for those two songs, unexpectedly. From the Youtube comments, it seems that MGMT doesn't even play their hit live, they have a backing track which they sing over. Anyway, thought this cover was worth posting on the blog. Enjoy!

How long am I supposed to wait?
Ra Ra Riot - Can You Tell
Just one of those songs that'll make you go 'That's So Evonne'. Haha.
Tuesday, March 8, 2011
They trying to take all of your dreams; But you can't allow it.
Janelle Monae - Tightrope
The official video didn't have an embed link but this live performance showcases her just as well. Love her style and the way she moves. Very James Brown.
Here's the official remix video.
Saturday, March 5, 2011
You've got the moment, tell me what's the answer.
New Young Pony Club - Chaos
Smooth mellow rock vibe. With a hot drummer (whom attracts most of their guy fans I bet, judging from the tons of youtube comments heh) I absolutely love the bass on the song though. I shall learn bass one day. The most underrated sound in a rock band. But you just can't have a good song without it.
Here's another track.
New Young Pony Club - The Get Go
This five-piece rock band from London, England has been around since 2004, with two albums to date. The name just gets to you doesn't it? Kinky and fun. :P
Thursday, March 3, 2011
Presenting Sunday Girl.
One of the best covers of Tik Tok I found so far. Doesn't even sound like a crazy party song anymore. Heh.
I picked you out, I shook you up, and turned you around.
Atomic Tom - Don't You Want Me
I absolutely loved the video. It's for the movie Take Me Home Tonight starring you guessed it, Topher Grace (love him) aka Eric Foreman and Anna Faris. I know Glee did a cover of it in its most recent episode, which was great, loved the duet between Rachel and Blaine. They should sing together more, Raine owns Finchel. Hands down. Won't spoil the story for you guys though. One of the best episodes of the season, up there with the Valentine's Day episode. Okay, I should stop gleeking out. Anyways I happened to find this cover of the song which is pretty good too. Features the actors from the movie itself!
Wanna watch the original version by Human League? Here you go.
Now I gotta get myself one of them sweatshirts with the rainbow, thunderstorm, and sparkle blue!
Wednesday, March 2, 2011
I just count these ceiling tiles falling through my floor.
The Airborne Toxic Event - Happiness is Overrated
I love this song so much it's been on replay since I first downloaded it. Ha.
The lead singer sounds a lot like Arctic Monkey's Alex Turner. And some Black Keys thrown in there too. I like how they turned a real angsty song into something so light; and kinda nice to dance around in your pyjamas to. Heh.
Diggin' the Asian guitarist. Asian invasion!
Thursday, February 17, 2011
Cause sleep is not my friend.
Marina and The Diamonds - Shampain
I love this song! She has a voice that grabs you instantly. Though the song may mot be much. the video says otherwise. Like a mix between Michael Jackson's Thriller and Madonna's Like A Prayer.
Monday, February 14, 2011
It's a perfect shame.
The Bird and The Bee - Again and Again
This song creeps me out. But I still love it.
Saturday, February 12, 2011
You never know when to change your luck.
Tokyo Police Club - Wait Up (Boots of Danger)
You can never go wrong with an awesome name like Tokyo Police Club.
Thursday, February 10, 2011
Radiohead - Nude
It's friggin' Thom Yorke people. Need I say more?
Wednesday, February 9, 2011
I'm fallin' to your eyes; An intoxicating surprise
Goldhawks - This Time Next Year
These guys are similar to U2/Supergrass/Simple Minds/Oasis and the rest of the 80s stuff with a new refreshing twist. Love them. Unique sound you won't get on the radio.
Tuesday, February 8, 2011
So make your move real slow my mind's a weapon
Santogold, Julian Casablancas, N.E.R.D produced by Pharrell - My Drive Thru
I love N.E.R.D. I love The Strokes. Santogold's not bad either. So what's there not to like about this song? Apparently Pharrell and Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas (I simply love his name haha) wrote this song for a Converse ad campaign. Hence, the multiple Converse stars you see in the above video.
Labels:
julian casablancas,
n.e.r.d.,
pharrell,
santogold

Take my badge, but my heart remains
The Black Keys - Tighten Up
Sorry for the long break. Happy Chinese New Year folks. I give you the Black Keys.
Saturday, January 29, 2011
Baby, it will all soon come to an end
The Honorary Title - Bridge and Tunnel
Jarrod Gorbel is amazing. His earlier stuff with his band Honorary Title sounds younger but it's still worth listening to. Reminds me of Oasis.
Friday, January 28, 2011
Show me the right way to go.
Coldplay - Spies
Coldplay has become one of my favourite bands within an extremely short period of time. Like, within a week? Amazing. I used to be one of those people who were all "Coldplay? Ugh. Next song please", but now after actually sitting my butt down to listen to them, I find their music extremely enchanting. Everything just flows so effortlessly. His voice is so smooth and distinctly Chris Martin that only Coldplay can play Coldplay songs. Nobody could cover them better. Plus, they write really good lyrics. And you know how I feel about lyrics. They matter. Hella lot.
Coldplay - Sparks
BTW does anyone agree with me that their first album is the best? Really, really good stuff here.
Thursday, January 27, 2011
You've done nothing at all to make me love you less.
Barcelona - Come Back When You Can
Piano based bands should get more credit for their work. I mean, come on, compared to all the autotuned stuff we get on the radio? These bands actually write their own stuff and play instruments. Not many artists do that nowadays. Invasion of the computer mixers. And Black Eyed Peas. Not forgetting T-Pain. Eheh.
Bang you're dead dead, alouette, here's your silhouette.
Mark Ronson - Bang Bang Bang
I love this guy! Post-modern funk infused with R&B, pop, big band and whatever sounds good. I've heard this song a really long time ago and have always wanted to download it. But I didn't know who sang it or what was the title of the song. I only knew the 'bang bang'. So I Youtubed and tada! I should've known Mark Ronson was the genius behind this. Found myself tapping to the beat a few seconds into the song.
Mark Ronson feat. Amy Winehouse - Valerie
Found this great remix. I sense a Jamaican vibe. Nice.
Ghostface Killah, Nate Dogg & Mark Ronson - Ooh Wee
And this is my favourite! Love the clinking glasses in the background. And the synth bass is cool. Listen now. Please and thankyou (:
Wednesday, January 26, 2011
I know we can't slow down; we can't hold back.
Cage the Elephant - Ain't No Rest For The Wicked
The guitar is friggin' sick in this one. Kinky but it has a certain funky edge to it which makes me love it even more. It's so alternative it doesn't even belong in the category. And I quote a fellow Youtuber's comment,
'Cage the Elephant has somehow crossed four genres and made their music badass'.
Monday, January 24, 2011
Your smile is a beautiful lie.
Edward Maya & Vika Jigulina - Stereo Love
Great song. Clubs will definitely still be playing this ten, maybe even twenty years from now. There's another version with Mia Martina but I prefer the bass in this one. Loud like Boomz.
Thursday, January 20, 2011
She is love, and she is all I need.
Parachute - She Is Love
They've been around for quite sometime now. Got their album when it first came out and I must say it's pretty good. Mellow, but not too mellow till you feel like you're high or something. Aha. Lyrics to me, are just as important as the music (but I'm aware the general public are into songs about explosive devices and partying? so what's up with that) Anyway, these guys get everything right, down to their choice of words.
Parachute - Under Control
And here's something a little more uplifting.
How do you even slap a mannequin? ;)
Wednesday, January 19, 2011
And I can tell just what you want.
Two Door Cinema Club - What You Know
That guitar hook is just so addictive. Great song to keep you on your feet. And the live version's as awesome as I expected it to be. Did I mention I absolutely love TDCC? Those French people sure can sing huh. Great that they're finally getting the recognition they deserve. I mean, I can't stand some people who hate indie bands who get noticed and become more popular. Then you're not real fans, are you? Don't you want them to achieve something with their music, at least? Good for them, I say.
Such a pretty house and such a pretty garden.
Radiohead - No Surprises
Listening to this song helps me sleep better. No kidding. That melody in the background has this odd, calming effect on me. Raw, non-autotuned and simple. Radiohead's in a league of its own; they can't be put into any particular genre, can they? Alternative? Not exactly. They make music that no one else could copy, or even manage to copy. Sure, Paramore unintentionally came out with their hit 'The Only Exception' which sounded very similar to No Surprises. But. That's been playing on the radio for months and I got sick of it in a week. I mean, Radiohead's probably one of the most influential around and yet, they have managed to make music that's not boring or forgettable.
How I first heard of Radiohead.
Believe it or not, I first heard one of their less popular songs in How I Met Your Mother. This is the best video I could find of the song. Acoustic performances always give me the chills. And Thom Yorke is simply amazing live.
Radiohead - Nice Dream
Sunday, January 16, 2011
Isn't it crazy; How life slips right into your life
Stars Go Dim - Crazy
Oh my, this song is just too good. And to think it's already been two (almost three) years since it was first released. The best songs always go unnoticed, don't they?
The live version's just as good.
Just a voice like a riot; Rocking every revision
Linkin Park - Waiting For The End
I know their latest offering, A Thousand Suns, has received a lot of bad reviews but hey, this song is hella good. Kinda different from their usual style, but with a good beat and lyrics, you can never go wrong.
What was left when that fire was gone?
I thought it felt right but that right was wrong
All caught up in the eye of the storm
And trying to figure out what it's like moving on
And i don't even know what kind of things I've said
My mouth kept moving and my mind went dead
So, picking up the pieces, now where to begin?
The hardest part of ending Is starting again
Don't Ever Look Back.
The Rescues - Teenage Dream
Gosh. THIS just gave so much more depth to an otherwise extremely shallow (oops) song. I'm just sayin'.
Credits to StephPhang for the intro!
Saturday, January 15, 2011
Take a bite of my heart tonight.
Neon Trees - Animal
I know most of you have probably heard this song before, but I'm just gonna put it up anyway 'cause my blog needs Neon Trees. Period.
Female drummer for the win.
Wednesday, January 12, 2011
Wake up, kids!
New Radicals - Mother We Just Can't Get Enough
I realise I've been drowning myself in depressing songs lately. Wasn't exactly good for my system. Thank god I found an antidote.
They're the band who gave us this gem of a song.
New Radicals - You Get What You Give
The ultimate 'shout till your lungs come out' song.
I'm feeling so much better now ;)
Monday, January 10, 2011
Metric-ulous.
Metric - Gold Guns Girls
I remember when we were gambling to win
Everybody else said better luck next time
I don't wanna bend like the bad girls bend
I just wanna be your friend, is it ever gonna be enough?
Metric - Sick Muse
Watch out, Cupid stuck me with a sickness
Pull your little arrows out and let me live my life
The one I better lead, all the blinds are fantasies
Metric - Help, I'm Alive
Help, I'm alive, my heart keeps beating like a hammer
Hard to be soft, tough to be tender
Come take my pulse, the pace is on a runaway train
Metric - Gimme Sympathy
Don't go, stay with the all-unknown
Stay away from the hooks
All the chances we took
We're so close to something better left unknown
We're so close to something better left unknown
So what if they've appeared on the soundtrack of Twilight. They were already hella good before that.
Sunday, January 9, 2011
I'll always be waiting for you.
Coldplay - Shiver
Hauntingly beautiful.
Man they looked so young in this video. Think it was taken off one of their earlier albums, in 2005? Heard it first on Guitar Hero. Since then, it's been on my daily playlist.
I've got to tell you my tale; Of how I loved and how I failed.
The Verve - History
One of the most touching and thought-provoking songs I've ever heard. Lyrics are deep and so filled with emotion that it's pretty likely frontman Richard Ashcroft had experienced some sort of heartbreak when he wrote this. Backed by those lovely, lovely violins, this song would definitely serve as a good heart mender ;)
Saturday, January 8, 2011
Something inside has died and I can't hide
Carole King - It's Too Late
Used to listen to her in my parents' car all the time. Great music to heal the soul. Now this is what the world needs more of. Not booze and techno music.
Thursday, January 6, 2011
Interpol - Obstacle 1
Great song. Reminds me of The White Stripes. They're an indie rock band from New York. Sweet.
Wednesday, January 5, 2011
Death Cab For Cutie - Your Heart Is An Empty Room.
I always thought they were some heavy metal band. Haha. I mean, with a name like that? I really should stop judging bands based on their names.
I just love this kind of mellow rock music which makes you listen and wonder.
Devlin feat. Yasmin - Runaway
Good song. And I'm not even a fan of rap.
I gotta leave, I gotta go,
there’s nothing here for me no more
I gotta be free, I gotta be
somewhere that I can just be me.
and I run run runaway, run run runaway,
run run runaway, I runaway.
Monday, January 3, 2011
Instrumental.
Claire de Lune by Debussy. Gosh, what a great piece this is. I have never really taken a liking for classical music, but this one just got me hooked. Sad songs make my day. Oh, the irony.
